# Massachusetts Backs Quantum Innovation with $25M Lab Investment

MIT and Massachusetts officials have unveiled the Quantum Systems Laboratory, a cutting-edge research facility receiving $25 million in state funding. Located at MIT’s Building 39, the lab will house a quantum computer alongside supporting technologies like sensors and quantum interconnects—physical channels that transmit quantum information between systems.

The shared-use facility aims to position Massachusetts as a global quantum innovation hub, opening access to researchers from MIT, Harvard, UMass, and beyond. Officials highlight quantum technology’s potential across computing, security, healthcare, defense, and space exploration.

Construction is expected to begin this summer, generating over 150 on-site jobs plus additional positions in supply chains and professional services. The lab complements existing MIT quantum research facilities and will support both academic research and commercial ventures, strengthening the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
