Xanadu Launches Public Cloud Access for Borealis

# Xanadu Makes Quantum Advantage Accessible to Everyone

Canadian quantum startup Xanadu has achieved a major milestone by launching public cloud access to Borealis, its photonic quantum computer—marking the first time a system demonstrating quantum computational advantage is available to the general public. Quantum computational advantage occurs when a quantum machine outperforms the world’s fastest supercomputers on specific tasks.

Borealis harnesses 216 squeezed-state qubits (quantum bits) arranged three-dimensionally and can generate computational samples in 36 microseconds—a task that would take conventional supercomputers roughly 9,000 years. This represents over 50 million times faster performance than earlier photonic demonstrations. The achievement, published in *Nature*, demonstrates that photonic quantum computers can scale effectively and solve real-world problems in drug discovery, battery development, and logistics.

Users can access Borealis immediately through Xanadu Cloud or soon via Amazon Web Services’ Braket platform, democratizing quantum computing research worldwide.
