# RIKEN Debuts ROQUO Supercomputer for Quantum-Classical Computing Integration

Japan’s RIKEN Center for Computational Science has activated ROQUO, a new GPU-based supercomputer designed to bridge quantum and classical high-performance computing (HPC). Built by DTS Corporation as part of the government-funded JHPC-quantum initiative, ROQUO achieves 19.80 petaflops—a measure of computational speed representing quadrillions of calculations per second—in standard floating-point performance benchmarks.

Located in Kobe, the system represents a significant step toward practical quantum-HPC hybrid platforms that could unlock new computational capabilities. Named after Mount Rokko, the mountain overlooking Kobe, ROQUO aims to serve as a long-term research foundation for advancing quantum computing integration with traditional supercomputing infrastructure.

The platform’s arrival signals growing momentum in making quantum computers practically useful by combining them with classical systems.
