# Quantum Computing Meets Medical Imaging in Chile-Brazil Partnership

Classiq and UC Chile have launched an ambitious 12-month initiative to harness quantum machine learning for analyzing medical images, particularly in kidney pathology. The project combines quantum and classical computing to tackle kidney lesion classification, tissue segmentation, and pattern recognition in microscopy slides—areas of significant public health concern across Latin America.

The research team will develop quantum algorithms using Classiq’s software platform, NVIDIA’s CUDA-Q framework, and IonQ quantum processors, then benchmark results against traditional machine learning methods. Notably, this represents Latin America’s first announced collaboration fusing quantum computing, machine learning, and computational pathology, involving researchers from Chile and Brazilian institutions.

The initiative underscores Chile’s emerging position in quantum technology and aligns with the nation’s recently announced quantum strategy through 2035. It demonstrates practical applications for quantum computing beyond theoretical exploration.
